African Artefacts.

Long time ago the local people used to collect seeds of the doum tree and burn patterns into them to make beads for their jewellary. Other beads were made of horns, bone stones, clay and old metal and shell seeds. Those where the gone days, now the local people makes jewellery with imported glass beads, which are more colorful and more versatile than the ones they use long time ago.

Now we at beaded sandals and value added handcrafts are now turning into using leather and beads to make various things more attractive than before. The sandals that's are decorated with beads and shells are attractive and very comfortable. Key rings, hair clips, bracelets and handbags are all attractive piece of art. These are all the goodies we make at our workshop.

Though the beads are mainly imported. The African communities have accepted them and incorporated there use in the making of culture ornaments and jewellery. In African kingdoms only the elders wear them and only when their is a important ceremony held. The Maasai, Samburu, Boran, Turkana have them in there culture. Its fashionable for Women to wear beaded accessories like Bracelets, Anklets and Sandals. Traditional though, they had specific uses. Some were used on particular occasions while others were worn by elders, initiates, those married or those in specific professions, such as medicinemen or priests.
