South-Western Tourist Circuit.
This circuit includes Nairobi, which happened to be the main safari base for the southwestern circuit. Other includes Mt longonot National Park, hell's gate, Lake Nakuru National Park, Ruma, Ndere Island, kisumu Impala sanctuary and the world famous Maasai Mara game Reserve.
I. Mt Longonot & the Hell's Gate National Park.
Mt.Longont National Park is only 90 km from Nairobi lies at an altitude of about 1,900m - 2,200m. It's a young volcano that rises to 2,740m above sea level. Ideal for peoples who wants to view the Naivasha basin, the volcano and crater, as well as the Great Rift Valley. Hell's gate is ideal place to visit, family outing on a one day trip or as a stop over en-route to lake Nakuru. The place is famous for its natural hot geysers, as well eagle and vulture breeding grounds. Fischer's tower, Central tower and Njorowa gorges are special places to view the Great Rift Valley. Buffalo, Masai giraffes, elands, coke hartebeests, lion, leopards and cheetahs are games that can be view at this national reserve. There are about 103 species birds of that have been recorded. Accommodation are available in the nearby hotels, lodges, and homestays around lake Naivasha.
II. Maasai Mara Game reserve.
The Masai Mara is the most popular, most visited and most famous game sanctuary in the country. The big five can be easily spotted here with much easy. Remember the film "Out of Africa" most of the scenario was shot in great extent in this reserve. The annual migration of millions of Zebras, Wildebeests, and gazelles from Serengeti plains across Tanzania border and into Mara River to reach the Masai Mara for grazing fields from late June is amazing spectacle worth to see. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed from early July to August. 452 of bird's species have been recorded in this reserve. Hot air balloon safaris are available in this park. Game walk and night game can be organized in this reserve. From this park you can easy have access to Lake Naivasha, Magadi, Victoria and Elementaita. Accommodation is ready available in reserve range from five star to luxury tented camps.
III. Lake Nakuru National Park.
The lake is shallow alkaline on the edge of Nakuru town. It lies at a distance of 160 km from Nairobi. The lake is a home to millions of flamingoes. The birds depend on the water level, which determines the quantity of algae on which the bird feeds on. When water level is low Flamingoes are known to migrate to other Rift valley lakes. The lake and its surrounding around were gazetted as protected area for Flamingoes and the endangered species of Rhino. A colony of about 25 white Rhino and black Rhinos, its one of the largest concentrations in the country. Game viewing is relatively easy here. Accommodations are available in the nearby Guesthouse, lodges or the five campsites.

This circuit includes most of captivating sights in Kenya as the landscape ranges from tropical forest, the Savannah too arid and semi desert. These are Kakamega forest, mt. Elgon, Saiwa Swamp, Nasalot, Kamanarok, South Turkana, Kerio Valley and Lake Bogoria.
Mt.Elgon & Kerio Valley Reserve & saiwa National Park. Mt.Elgon lies at altitude of about 2,500m - 4,200m. It's about 470km from Nairobi. Its one of the most beautiful and truly wild. The park is a home to hundreds of elephant (the famous cave or underground elephant), buffaloes, protected colobus and the blue monkeys, giant forest hog and other type of antelopes. Over 240 species of birds have been recorded here. Kerio valley is another bio-diversity area to visit. Its depth is about 1,219m truly striking. Saiwa provide a home to the rare semi-aquatic sitatunga antelope. |
